My book was written especially for beginners. $19.99. My book literally shows every step of the way how to make a stunning Native American star quilt of any size you want from baby size to king size. But even if you are an experienced star quilt maker, you will still find lots of neat tips and shortcuts worth learning. The book has 64 pages and a large 8 1/2" X 11" format, with a great two-page Table of Contents. It's lavishly illustrated throughout with big, easy-to-see photos, and the detailed step-by step instructions make learning a breeze. The book contains full instructions for making two different baby size star quilts and two different queen size star quilts. It's exciting to learn how to make any size of star quilt that you want, and to choose your own fabric colors too. Other topics in the book are how to put borders and length panels on your star quilt to fit a mattress properly, and how to make a simple-as-pie binding to finish your quilt. Suggestions are given for selecting the types of fabrics, battings, and backings for your quilt, and Diane even tells you what her 12 favorite old fashioned star quilt sewing tools are.
One of the best features of this book is its helpful TIPS section that's devoted entirely to sharing the "closely guarded traditional star quilt maker's secrets" that will help you meet any challenge and make a perfect plains style star quilt to be proud of. Here are some more important subjects covered in the TIPS section: * Got a VOLCANO in the center of your star? There are FOUR WAYS to fix it. * Are you accidentally cutting off the star tips when you sew the four borders around the star? The way to avoid this is so simple that you'll wonder why you never thought of it. * Have you made your own custom size star and now you don't know what size to cut the background squares and triangles to fit around the star? There's an easy solution, no matter what size the star is. There are tips galore in this book. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Many emails have arrived that emphasize how easy it was to make a star quilt with the book.
P.S. It was so awesome when I received this letter! "Dear Ms. Hill: Just wanted to let you know that we have added your book to the paper version of our quilt bibliography. Someone in Washington will soon be adding it to the on-line version as well." Sincerely, Ellen Jamieson, Resource Center, National Museum of the American Indian, One Bowling Green, New York, NY 10004-1415

Baby 40". Queen 90 x 100". The Prairie Star with Plains colors was the very first pattern I ever made. I still love this star very much. You will love this star quilt too when you see it finished.
Queen 90 x 100". The OTHER FAMOUS ONE! There is nothing tame about the Whirlwind star quilt pattern. Try using colorful fabrics for the three colors, or break up the black to add another color. Or go wild and crazy with many colors!
